March Focus on World and Local Hunger |
| |
SCN will once again sponsor a "Hunger Awareness Month." Several projects and programs will help educate the community at large on the plight of the hungry. All are invited to participate in any or all of these projects.
30 HOUR FAMINE SCN is sponsoring the WOrld Vision 30 Hour Famine. Challenge yourself to go THIRTY HOURS without food and help fight world hunger. Fasting for thirty hours will help address world hunger three ways: 1) You will personally feel the hunger pangs that over 2 million people feel each and every day, which will increase both your sympathy and empathy for those who are hungry; 2) Telling your friends that you have decided to get involved and make a difference will open their eyes to those who are hungry and prompt them to take action; 3) You will enlist the help of your friends and family by asking them for donations which WOrld Vision will use to help build wells for clean drinking water, allow communities in impoverished cities to begin agricultural programs, build schools and hospitals, and provide trianing for those devestated by hunger to help themselves.
The 30 Hour Famine is scheduled for March 18-19. See Mr. Stevens or Mr. Capron for a permission slip.
RIBBON SALE / SKIP LUNCH FOR THE HUNGRY Purchase a ribbon from an SCN member, skip lunch that day and give the money you woulod have spent on food to help those who don't eat at all!
HUNGER BANQUEY Keep Wednesday, March 25 clear on your calendar to attend the SCN's 4th Hunger Banquet. We're giving away FREE FOOD and will help contribute to solving the world hunger problem at the same time. Everyone who attends will receive free food (although all will not receive a full meal) and they will hear from a Community Food Bank representative as to the hunger problem that exists right here in Union County. AN interactive and fun program, SCN hopes to raise over a $1000.00 through the fonations that will be collected at the conclusion of the program. |
